The Hillsdale College Action Shooting team closed out the 2024-25 campaign with a strong showing at the Ohio State Buckeye Blast on Friday and Saturday at the Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio.
Against a field of more than 250 shooters, the Chargers had success in multiple divisions, including taking three of the top four spots in the Limited Division.
Senior and team captain
Taylor Chen placed second in the limited division to lead Hillsdale, with junior
Clara Bozzay taking third and sophomore
Kayla Mullin placing fourth. Bozzay and Mullin finished first, and second, respectively, among female competitors in the limited division, and Bozzay was fifth and Mullin seventh among all female competitors across all categories.
Sophomore
Jonah Kirstein won a title for the Chargers, taking first overall in the C Class Production Division, while sophomore
John Beecher placed third in B Class Limited Optics, finishing 10th across all Limited Optics Divisions and 39th out of the entire field.
In the Open Division, sophomore
Luke Sempsrott placed fourth in C Class, and senior
Alexander Vietor placed seventh in the B Class.
Rounding out the top finishers for Hillsdale, junior
Joseph Grohs placed fifth in Limited Optics Unclassified, and eighth overall across all Unclassified Divisions. Senior
William Hudson was close behind Grohs with a seventh place finish in Limited Optics Unclassified.
Hillsdale finishes a solid season that saw the Chargers host and win the team title at the first USPSA Collegiate Shooting Championships in September at the Ailes Action Shooting Range. Hillsdale will graduate a few key contributors to that title, including Chen, Viator and Hudson, but the bulk of the team will return next year as the Chargers aim to win the crown again in the fall.
