The Hillsdale College Action Shooting team hosted its biggest event on the calendar this season this past Saturday and Sunday, as the Chargers took on the Springfield Armory 2025 USPSA Collegiate Championship at the Ailes Action Shooting Range.
The Collegiate Championship, now in its second season, is the premier national competition in action shooting for college competitors and programs, with many of the top teams in the country in attendance.
The Chargers acquitted themselves well against an elite field, taking second in the nation as a team in the Limited category, through the squad of
Kayla Mullin,
Clara Bozzay,
Jianna Coppola and Joseph Beecher, and also taking second in the Limited Optics category with the team of
John Beecher,
Joseph Grohs,
Jonah Kirstein and
Brendan Burnham.
Along with helping the Chargers take second as a team, Mullin had a dazzling individual performance, winning the Limited Division title. The Limited Division is the most popular one at the collegiate level, with roughly half of the competitors competing in it during this weekend's action, making Mullin's national title even more impressive.Â
With Mullin leading the way, Hillsdale showed the strength of its female shooters in the event. The Chargers swept the top five spots in the Limited Lady category, with
Clara Bozzay taking second,
Jianna Coppola finishing third,
Christina Lewis taking fourth, and Kathryn Madden taking fifth behind Mullin. Bozzay also placed fifth overall in the Limited category regardless of gender.
Hillsdale also had great success in the Limited Optics Division, placing three in the top 10. Junior
John Beecher led the way with a fourth place finish in the fiercely contested category, while senior
Joseph Grohs took sixth and
Jonah Kirstein 10th. Beecher, Grohs and Kirstein all placed in the top 10 overall in the competition, regardless of category, with their finishes.
With its big home event in the books, Hillsdale will hop across the border into Indiana next week to compete in the Indiana Sectional at the North Porter County Conservation Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
