Chargers open 2025-26 season at Bald Mountain Shooting Range

The Hillsdale College Shotgun Team capped off their week-long Fall Camp with an NSCA-registered sporting clays shoot at Bald Mountain Shooting Range. There were 314 competitors of all ages at the event to make it the largest of the year in Michigan. The Chargers shot both 80-target main event courses aptly named the Easy 80 and Elite 80.

On the Easy 80, freshman David Texas Ardis tied for 1st in Master Class, just one target behind High Overall, with 79/90. Senior Jordan Sapp's 78/80 was the high score in A Class. Also in A Class, junior Madeline Corbin tied for 3rd while junior Alex Hoffman tied for second in B Class.

On the Elite 80, senior Kyle Fleck (60/80) took 1st in A Class with Sapp (59/80) just behind in 2nd. Juniors Ava Downs (57/80) and Luke Johnson (57/80) tied for 2nd in B Class while Ardis (67/80) and freshman Roman Barrett (50/80) finished 3rd and tied for 3rd in Master Class and C Class respectively.

Including the composite score of both courses, Ardis had the best finish of any Charger athlete, breaking 146 out of 160 targets and finishing in 3rd Master Class. Senior Leif Andersen (130/160) also finished 3rd, but in AA Class. Sapp and Fleck earned 1st and 2nd respectively overall in A Class with 137 and 132 targets. Hoffman's 132/160 was 2nd in B Class with sophomore Nathaniel Meloro's 130/160 being 3rd in the class.

One Charger athlete, freshman Max Versluys, separately traveled to Detroit Gun Club to compete in Michigan's NSSA State Skeet Shoot. He had an immensely successful event and broke a perfect 100-straight in both Doubles and 20 gauge. In both of those disciplines plus .410, Versluys was named State Champion after a shoot-off. Overall, Max finished in 3rd place in the state after having to miss shoot-offs to go to Freshman Orientation at Hillsdale.
