The Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday at California University of Pennsylvania, winning its second invitational title in as many days in a dominant performance at the Vulcan Invite.
Hillsdale took first place in all nine events to roll to the team crown, led by several strong individual performances. Freshman
Sasha Babenko and
Avery May each captured three total titles to lead the Chargers. Babenko was first in the 50 freestyle (24.75) and the 100 backstroke (58.77), while May won the 1,650 freestyle (18:26.80) and 200 IM (2:14.58) and both athletes teamed with freshman
Rylee Harris and sophomore
Ella Malone on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:42.54).
The Chargers also took first place in the 200 medley relay, with Malone teaming with juniors
Lauren Kamp and
Inez McNichols and sophomore
Ella Schafer to win in 1:52.97. Schafer also won the 200 freestyle (1:57.42) and took second in the 200 IM (2:15.53) for Hillsdale, while Malone was runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:01.12) and
Rylee Harris took third in the 200 freestyle (2:01.37).
Other event winners for Hillsdale included sophomore
Yvonne Botha, who won the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.52 and also took fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.27), and freshman Aine Malone, who won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.54.
Isabel Ondracek took second in the 1,650 freestyle (19:04.47),
Olivia Leathers took third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.69), and
Alyson Early finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:17.08) as well for the Chargers.
Hillsdale travels to Canton, Ohio next Saturday for a meet against G-MAC foe Malone and Fairmont State. It will be the Chargers' final meet before the G-MAC/MEC Championships in February, and also will take place in C.T. Branin Natatorium, the host site of the G-MAC/MEC Championship meet.
