Chargers winning streak snapped in hard-fought match with Ferris State, 5-2

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team put up a tough fight against a strong regional opponent, Ferris State, in a road match on Saturday, but the Chargers saw their five-match winning streak come to an end in a 5-2 loss.

Although the Chargers fell, Hillsdale came close to pulling off the victory. Senior Isabella Spinazze and sophomore Julia Zlateva won a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles for the Chargers, but Hillsdale couldn't get one of the other two doubles matches to go their way as Ferris State took a 1-0 lead in the match.

In singles play, junior Ane Dannhauser stayed unbeaten this spring at No. 1 singles and rang up her sixth-straight match win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Ferris State's Madeline Peisley, and Zlateva completed an undefeated day with an impressive win at No. 4 singles, rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 victory for Hillsdale over the Bulldogs' Ayva Johnstone.

Needing two more points to pull out the match, Hillsdale took the no. 2, 3 and 5 singles matches to a third and deciding set, but Ferris State pulled out all three in close matches to secure a narrow victory.

The Chargers are now 5-1 for the spring and will be in action again tomorrow, Sunday, with a match against another tough Midwest Region foe, Davenport, at 11 a.m. at MVP Sportsplex in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
