Scouting the Opposition
Findlay: Both Findlay and Hillsdale enter Thursday's rivalry contest in desperate need of a victory, as neither team is secure in the G-MAC Tournament with two games remaining, and could be left out entirely if they come up empty this week.

A high-octane team that presses in the full court from start to finish and looks to score quickly, Findlay has leaned on a guard-heavy lineup led by three double-digit scorers – returning starters Anthony Johnson and Mekhi Elmore along with steady veteran presence Mason Brandt.

The Oilers go deep, with 12 players who get nine or more minutes a game, including emerging sophomore Alex Kendall and posts Jagger Landers, Ian Ioppolo and Steele Meister in the paint, and guards Javonte Hill, Jake Bishop, Max Roth and Josh Thorbahn on the perimeter.
Findlay is an elite team offensively, averaging 87.5 points per game, but the Oilers have been let down by their defense this season, giving up 81 points, 12th out of 13 G-MAC teams in 2025-26.

The Oilers have dominated the all-time series with Hillsdale, with a 61-15 mark, but eight of Hillsdale's 15 wins have come in the last decade. Findlay swept both contests last year on the way to the G-MAC regular season title, but Hillsdale beat Findlay 78-72 on Jan. 22 earlier this season.

Northwood: It's been a roller-coaster season for Northwood, with big wins and head-scratching losses, but as we enter the final week the Timberwolves are in position to lock up their first G-MAC Tourney bid since joining the league in 2022.

Second-year coach Tom Church has paired holdover Will Young II, a high-scoring guard in his fourth season, with three impact transfers, headlined by high-scoring posts Jamison Eklund, in his second year with the team, and former Emporia State player Parker Day. Young, Eklund and Day all average over 13 points and have been the engines of a high-octane offense that averages 80.7 points per game, fourth in the G-MAC.

Eastern Michigan transfer Julian Lewis and Brayden Szamrej round out the starting lineup with important two-way contributions, and Northwood also has gotten a lift from standout freshman John Simpson, who's averaging 11.2 points per game as the Timberwolves' sixth man.

As one of Hillsdale's biggest rivals, the Chargers and Timberwolves have a long basketball history dating back to the 60s. Hillsdale controls the series with a 66-36 record in 102 meetings, but the Timberwolves snapped a nine-game Charger winning streak earlier this season with an 87-73 win over Hillsdale in Midland on Dec. 11, 2025.

Scouting the Chargers
With just two games left in the season, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team returns home to make one final push for a G-MAC Tournament berth in the friendly confines of Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

Hillsdale is a balanced and deep team offensively, led by senior point guard Ashton Janowski. The team's leading scorer, Janowski is approaching 1,000 points for his career and shooting more efficiently from the floor than ever, with a career-high 34.4% shooting percentage from 3-point range.

Along with Janowski, the Chargers are also leaning heavily on a solid four-man rotation in the post. Junior Caleb Glaser and sophomore Connor Stonebraker had great months in January and both moved into the starting lineup, with Glaser leading the team in scoring and rebounding and Stonebraker ranking third in points per game. Hillsdale also has gotten major contributions in the paint from Garrett Bolte and CJ Yarian, who bring different skillsets to the table that allow the Chargers to mix and match for the situation.

On the wing, freshman Braylon Morris has become a key offensive threat, and moved into the starting lineup last week, averaging 8.7 points and shooting 40.2% from deep, while redshirt freshman Tommy Morgan continues to make significant contributions at both ends of the floor in his first season of action as well.

Guard Cole McWhinnie is posting career highs for the Chargers as well and is an important connector in the starting lineup for Hillsdale, while freshman Paxton Giertz also has carved out a role off the bench on the perimeter.

Returning for his third season as head coach of Hillsdale College is Keven Bradley, who has a 38-20 record so far leading the Chargers. Bradley is joined by two new assistants, Jackson McLaughlin and Braeden Proctor, for the 2025-26 campaign.

Other Notes
  • Hillsdale ranked ninth in the most recent Great Midwest Point Rating System release on Feb. 14, narrowly behind Cedarville for eighth and just ahead of Malone in 10th. The Point Rating System will be used to determine the eight teams that make the G-MAC Tourney in March, and to seed the field. Currently, Hillsdale is on the outside looking in, but the Chargers can play their way in this week with valuable opportunities for quality wins at home against Findlay and Northwood. Beating both won't guarantee the Chargers a spot in the postseason, but it will greatly increase the chances of Hillsdale reaching the G-MAC Quarterfinal round.
  • Saturday is the final home game for Hillsdale's three graduating seniors – guards Ashton Janowski, Cole McWhinnie and Jacob Meyer. All three will be honored in a short ceremony before the tip-off of the men's game against Northwood at 3 p.m., as well as with other promotions and events throughout the contest.
  • As a senior captain and Hillsdale's only returning starter from last season, Ashton Janowski is linchpin player for the Chargers. He's been a key player again for the Chargers in 2025-26, leading Hillsdale with 11.3 points per game and burying a game-winning shot with one second to play in a 74-72 victory over Ohio Christian on Nov. 22. One area of growth for Janowski in his final season is 3-point shooting, as his 34.4% mark from beyond the arc is a significant improvement on his sophomore and junior seasons with the Chargers.
  • Junior Caleb Glaser was inserted into the starting lineup on Jan. 3 against Malone and has proven that was a wise decision with a string of impressive performances, including a 19 point, nine rebound effort against Walsh on Jan. 5 and a career best 22-point performance against Kentucky Wesleyan on Feb. 19 in a critical win for Hillsdale. Always a high-energy player throughout his career, Glaser currently leads the team in in both scoring (11.5 points per game) and rebounding (5.8 per game). He has 10 double-figure scoring games in his last 12 appearances for the Chargers.
  • Freshman Braylon Morris has flashed serious potential off the bench for the Chargers to start his career at Hillsdale, with a pair of 20-plus point games in victories for the Chargers so far. Morris poured in 28 points in a double-OT win over Lake Erie on Dec. 6, and led Hillsdale with 22 points in a win over Truman State on Dec. 17. In both victories he shot over 70% from the floor and 50% from 3-point range. He's been hot recently, with five double-figure scoring contests in his last eight games, and has moved into the starting lineup for the Chargers for the most recent six contests.
  • Senior Cole McWhinnie is a veteran leader for the Chargers and is playing a key role on the perimeter for Hillsdale in his first season as a starter. McWhinnie is averaging a career high in points while also ranking first among Hillsdale players in assists (3.5 per game, seventh in the G-MAC) and steals (0.7 per game). He also ranks second in the G-MAC among all players in assist to turnover ratio (2.8). McWhinnie had a great game against Ohio Dominican on Saturday, Feb. 7, with a career high 17 points and four made 3-pointers, and also contributed 14 critical points in a key home win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Feb. 19.
  • Redshirt sophomore Connor Stonebraker has had big games off the bench this season for the Chargers, scoring 23 points in a Jan. 15 win over Cedarville and adding 14 more in a Jan. 17 contest at Tiffin. A third year player who's seeing consistent action for the Chargers for the first time, Stonebraker is flashing his versatile skill set and scoring ability, currently ranking third for the Chargers with 9.6 points per game on the season. He moved into the starting lineup for the first time against Tiffin on Feb. 5 and finished with 14 points, and was Hillsdale's leading scorer on Feb. 14 at Ashland with 17.
  • A veteran presence with many games under his belt, center CJ Yarian has made a career out of doing the dirty work down low for the Chargers. Yarian ranks second for Hillsdale with 5.65rebounds per game in 2025-26, and has always been a willing and skilled passer in the post throughout his career, with an impressive 2.2 assists per game as well. Yarian also ranks fourth in the G-MAC averaging 0.9 blocks per game and is on track to surpass 500 rebounds for his career before his time at Hillsdale is over, an impressive milestone that only a few Chargers have reached.
