The Hillsdale College baseball team sits atop the standings in the North Division after one week of G-MAC play, and junior
Rocco Tenuta is a big reason why.
Tenuta had a huge weekend as the Chargers took three of four from Thomas More on the road, and for his play the conference office named him G-MAC North Division Baseball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It's the third weekly conference honor of the season for the Chargers, and the first of Tenuta's career at Hillsdale.
The junior from Bartlett, Illinois was a consistent force for the Chargers against the Saints, batting .579 (11-19) with multiple hits in all four games. Tenuta didn't just produce, however, but also came up with clutch hits throughout the weekend, including a solo home run to tie the game in the eighth inning of Hillsdale's 11-8 win to open the series, the go-ahead three-run home run in Hillsdale's 7-4 win over Thomas More on Sunday, and a grand slam to break open the game in a 20-10 victory to finish the series on Sunday evening. For the weekend, Tenuta had three doubles, three home runs and nine total RBIs. He also flashed an impressive glove in the field for the Chargers, putting up a perfect fielding percentage for the weekend for Hillsdale.
Tenuta has been a lineup mainstay and one of the team's top hitters for three seasons now, and continues to produce at a high level for the Chargers. This season, he's Hillsdale's top hitter in batting average, OPS, runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBIs and walks drawn. His ability to get on base has been a constant theme throughout his career, as his 78 walks rank ninth all-time in Hillsdale history with over a season and a half still to play.
Hillsdale and Tenuta will look to stay hot this weekend as the Chargers host Malone for a four game series in the first contest of 2026 in Lenda and Glenda Hill Stadium and TFO Partners Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
