The Hillsdale College women's tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak with a well-earned win over Ashland on the road on Friday.
Hillsdale got off to a strong start by sweeping the doubles matches. The Chargers' No. 1 doubles team of
Ane Dannhauser and
Briana Rees won 6-3, Hillsdale's No. 2 doubles team of
Isabella Spinazze and
Julia Zlateva took a 6-4 win, and the Chargers' No. 3 doubles team of
Esther Sura and
Dimitra Papastavrou finished the sweep with a 6-2 victory to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers continued to do well in singles play, with Dannhauser taking a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ashland's Ana Penteado at No. 1 singles, Rees winning 6-3, 6-4 over Ashland's Constanza Arancibia at No. 2 singles, and Zlateva taking a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles over the Eagles' Maria Jemio to clinch the victory.
Hillsdale's Sura also won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles over Ashland's Brittany Witsken as well.
The Chargers are now 7-8 overall, 1-3 in the G-MAC and looking to get on a roll with another road match at Cedarville tomorrow, Saturday, at 11 a.m. up next.
