The Hillsdale College women's tennis team picked up a second straight win on Saturday, overcoming the loss of the doubles point to take down host Cedarville 5-2.
The Yellow Jackets took an early 1-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, despite a strong 6-0 victory for Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles team of
Ane Dannhauser and
Briana Rees.Â
The Chargers turned things around quickly in singles, winning five of the six matches to clinch the overall victory.
Ane Dannhauser took a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles over Cedarville's Diana Ivanikhina, and
Esther Sura won a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles over Cedarville's Susu Price.
Freshman
Dimitra Papastavrou also took a hard-fought three set match at No. 4 singles over Cedarville's Paula Curci Micieli, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, and senior
Isabella Spinazze rallied from a first set loss to win 6-3, 6-4, in the final two sets to win at No. 6 singles as well for the Chargers.
Briana Rees also won by retirement at No. 2 singles, leading 4-2 when her opponent could no longer continue the match.
Hillsdale is now 8-8 overall, 2-3 in the G-MAC, and looking to clinch a top four seed in the upcoming G-MAC Tournament with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. The Chargers return home to play Kentucky Wesleyan this coming Friday at 4 p.m.
