The underdog Hillsdale College baseball team couldn't keep its Cinderella run going on Friday in the Pool A Final of the G-MAC Tournament.
Seventh-seeded Hillsdale took an 11-0 loss to third-seeded Findlay to come up just short of the G-MAC Championship game at Prasco Park. The Chargers had beaten two higher-seeded teams, including eliminating sixth-seeded Northwood, to reach the contest.
Hillsdale fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning and couldn't overcome an eight-run third inning by the Oilers, who used an error and a three-run home run to pull away in the contest.
The Chargers finished with just three hits on the day, with
Gaard Swenson's double leading Hillsdale offensively.
Senior
Patrick MacLean (3-3) took the loss for the Chargers, pitching two and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
Drew Law,
Josh Novak and
Winston Delp all pitched in relief for Hillsdale as well.
The Chargers finish the season 23-29 overall, and should take confidence from their tournament run at Prasco. Hillsdale had a young team this season, with just two seniors, MacLean and outfielder
Tyler Turner. The Chargers also battled injuries to its pitching staff all season that affected the depth of its rotation.
With a veteran lineup and staff slated to return for 2027, and better health, Hillsdale could be in line for a big season next spring.
