Four straight runs in the last two innings made it dramatic, but in the end, it wasn't enough for a win.
The Hillsdale College baseball team lost a heartbreaker, 6-5, to Saginaw Valley State Wednesday afternoon on the road dropping its conference record to 13-17 on the season. Hillsdale, now 16-31 overall, will wrap up the regular season this weekend with a three-game set at Lake Erie College starting Saturday.
Senior Nolan Nunez (pictured) got the rally started with an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Luke Ortel to make the score 6-2. Connor Bartlett and Adam Ladzinski followed with more RBI, securing momentum for the Chargers.
Sophomore Tad Sobieszczanski delivered a two-out single that scored Lincoln Reed in the ninth to make it 6-5. But Sobieszczanski was thrown out attempting to steal to end the ballgame.
Ladzinski was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Chargers, while Sobieszczanski racked up three singles and scored once. Ortel was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Sophomore Chris McDonald threw six innings in getting the start on the mound.
