On the first day of ITA Fall Regionals, the Charger women's tennis team made its presence felt in a big way.
The Chargers deployed three doubles teams in the massive field in Indianapolis, and they all survived the first day with a perfect record. All three doubles teams successfully advanced to the tournament quarterfinals, scheduled to be played Saturday.
The pair of Halle Hyman and Lindsay Peirce entered the tournament as the #16 seed in the A Doubles Main bracket, but put together a remarkable run, allt he way to the semifinals.
They opened play with an 8-3 win over Drury, then took down a duo from Grand Valley State 9-7. In the quarterfinals, they were 8-4 victors over Lewis before falling to the top-seeded team from Lewis 8-5.
On the B side, Dana Grace Buck and Corinne Prost were among the higher seeded teams, ranked 5th in their bracket. They opened play with an 8-2 win over a duo from Southern Indiana, then advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-6 win over a team from Bellarmine. Their tournament run ended at that point, due to Prost's injury.
Junior Jada Bissett and senior Sydney Delp cruised all the way to the semifinals, winning by scores of 8-3 (Ashland), 8-4 (Wayne State) and 8-3 (Grand Valley State) before losing 8-5 to a team from Indianapolis.
SINGLES
There was also a singles' side to the ITA Regionals, held in Indiana.
In the "A" flight, Prost defeated Missouri-St. Louis's Salome Bleuler 3-6, 6-4, 11-98 in a marathon opening match, but she had to withdraw from the tournament after suffering an injury.
Hyman coasted through her first round match, 6-1, 6-0, but lost a three-set decision to the tournament's number three seed from Drury, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
Peirce lost her first-round match on the "A" side.
In the "B: flight, Amberley Bailey went 1-1, notching a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ashland in the opening round. After losing her first match, Buck won back-to-back matches in the consolation draw, 8-1 and 8-5 before withdrawing from the tournament.
