The Hillsdale College women's tennis team continued to uphold its own high standards in the 2025-26 season, earning another top four finish and G-MAC Tourney berth in an increasingly strong conference.
Hillsdale finished fourth in the G-MAC with a 6-3 record and earned an eighth-straight bid to the conference tourney, holding their own in a league title race that included four teams who spent time in the ITA national rankings, led by Midwest Regional champion Findlay. The Chargers pushed the top-10 ranked Oilers in a close match at home in March, and also narrowly missed an upset of nationally-ranked Tiffin that same weekend as well.
The Chargers opened the season in the Fall with a strong performance at the ITA Midwest Regional. Junior
Ane Dannhauser had one of the finest performances by a Hillsdale women's tennis player at the ITA Regional in program history, becoming the first Chargers player to reach the semifinal round of the top singles draw in the event, and also earning a berth in the quarterfinal round of the A doubles draw with partner
Briana Rees. Sophomore
Julia Zlateva also reached the quarterfinals of the B singles draw with an upset of the third seed, while freshman
Sydney Singh won the consolation bracket title in the C Singles draw in one of the best team performances in the event in program history.
That momentum carried over into the spring, as Hillsdale faced a brutal schedule that included matches against Division I Tarleton State as well as six teams in the NCAA DII national rankings, including top 25 programs Wayne State and Midwestern State as well as Findlay. The Chargers carved through those challenges to finish with a winning record at 12-9 overall and 6-3 in G-MAC play to reach the conference tournament as the fourth seed again.
Dannhauser was impressive throughout the campaign, spending much of the season ranked nationally by the ITA in singles and pairing with Rees to earn a national ranking in doubles as well. The junior from South Africa finished the campaign with her third-straight first team All-G-MAC honor, while Rees, who had a strong singles season along with her doubles play, earned repeat second team All-G-MAC honors as well.
Zlateva also had a strong sophomore season for Hillsdale, while the Chargers got a big boost from two freshmen who were fixtures in the lineup and had excellent first seasons in
Dimitra Papastavrou and
Esther Sura.
Those five returning players, all of whom got significant experience in 2025-26, give Hillsdale a great core to build with entering the 2026-27 campaign. The Chargers will miss their two graduating seniors,
Megan Hackman, an important singles player, and
Isabella Spinazze, a key partner in doubles, but return a ton of lineup talent, as well as sophomore
Emma Palus, who has real promise as well. Hillsdale also will look to a strong freshman class as it hopes to make a run at a top finish in the G-MAC in 2026-27.
