A Fun Day At The Ballpark

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game 1 box score: Hillsdale 18, Ohio Valley 2

Game 2 box score: Hillsdale 18, Ohio Valley 1

Nearly every batter who stepped into the batter's box for the Hillsdale College softball team got either a hit or a run batted in during an historic rout Sunday afternoon at Johnny Williams Field.

The Chargers have never swept a doubleheader by such a wide margin in their history, defeating Ohio Valley University 18-2 and 18-1, picking up their first two conference wins of the season. Hillsdale is now 2-2 in conference play and 8-15 on the season.

In game one, Hillsdale piled on 10 runs in the third inning leading to a run-rule ended contest. Thirteen different players accounted for the 17 Charger hits in the opener. Ten different players drove in runs, led by the four from Natalie Walters, who belted a grand slam home run in the third inning.

Sophomore Madison Stoner was 2-for-3 - both doubles - with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Nine different players had doubles, two from Stoner and Jessica Taylor

Freshmen Morgan Cox, Renee Bielawa, Reagan Gensiejewski, Kasidy Carson and Elaine Townley all had hits in their first home collegiate at bats. Cox crushed a triple off the center field wall. Senior Amanda Marra had a streak of seven consecutive hits stopped on a fielding error by the Scots, but she still scored three times and drove in a run.

Dana Weidinger got the win in the circle for Hillsdale with two strikeouts in four innings.

In game two, Hillsdale scored seven times in the first and third innings and plated four in the second to pile up more than enough runs to engineer the NCAA's run rule for the second straight game.

Six different players - Sam Catron, Taylor, Townley, Stoner, Emma Johnson and Bielawa - all had multi-hit games in game two for Hillsdale. Johnson and Taylor drove in three runs apiece. Junior Carlin MacDonald-Gannon blasted a two-run double, one of four doubles produced by the Charger lineup in the game.

Walters got her fourth win of the season in game two while freshman Camryn Olson struck out two batters in a two-inning relief appearance.
