Box Score

 SUNDAY RECAP

Game 1 box score: Davenport 6, Hillsdale 4

Game 2 box score: Davenport 9, Hillsdale 7 (8 inn.)

A doubleheader that took well over six hours saw the Hillsdale College baseball team lose two to Davenport University, 6-4 and 9-7, in games played at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois. The losses make the Chargers 3-7 on the season.

In game one, Hillsdale scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. Matt Granzotto and Christian Rodino scored on passed balls to tie the game, and Colin Boerst belted a two-run single to give Hillsdale its first lead of the game.

However, the Panthers responded with four runs of their own in the top of the eighth, and held on for the win from there.

Boerst was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Jake Hoover scored a run and had a hit.

Game two saw the teams combine to use 12 pitchers, eight of them from the Panther side of the field. It was a wild affair that saw five total runs scored in the first inning, another four-run rally by Hillsdale, and another late-inning comeback by the Panthers.

Granzotto provided the biggest hit of the day for the Chargers with a three-run home run in the fifth to give his team a 6-5 lead. Davenport put up two runs in the seventh, only to see Hillsdale come back and tie it in the bottom of the seventh. Granzotto scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. But the Panthers scored twice in the eighth and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth to complete the sweep.

Davenport outhit Hillsdale 10-6, and the Chargers stranded 13 runners on base in the game two loss.

Hoover drew four walks and scored two runs for the Chargers. Boerst and Steven Ring each scored and Dylan Lottinville, Jacob DePillo and James Krick all drove in runs for Hillsdale.
