Hillsdale Sweeps Past Trevecca in High Scoring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game 1 box score: Hillsdale 10, Trevecca 9 (8 inn.)

Game 2 box score: Hillsdale 7, Trevecca 6

Softballs were flying all over the place in Nashville Monday afternoon. But when the day was over, the Charger softball team had two wins in its pocket.

Hillsdale won a pair of high-scoring affairs with Trevecca Nazarene, 10-9 and 7-6 to sweep the doubleheader in Tennessee. The wins give Hillsdale a three-game winning streak and push the team's record to 11-16 overall and 5-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Madison Stoner belted a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Chargers the game-winning run in a wild contest that saw each team get, then lose the lead. Stoner's home run, which cleared the left field fence, countered a sixth-inning home run by the Trojans that tied the game at 9.

The round-tripper was just part of another very productive day at the plate for Stoner. In the opener she was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Emma Johnson had her best day at the plate of her career in game one, smacking two doubles while going 4-for-4, scoring two runs and driving in another. She walked in her fifth at bat, giving her a 1.000 on-base percentage for this game.

Seniors Katie Kish and Amanda Marra combined for five hits, four runs scored and three runs batted in at the top of Hillsdale's lineup. Junior Sam Catron added two singles to the impressive offensive performance in game one.

In game two, Hillsdale took a 7-2 lead thanks to some more strong hitting from Stoner, who went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and two walks. But the Trojans hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one-run game. But Hillsdale was able to close out the victory, with sophomore Natalie Walters securing her sixth pitching win of the season. She picked up the save in the game one slugfest.

Walters helped herself out at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and three runs batted in. Catron doubled among her two hits and scored twice, while Johnson drove in another run to help complete a terrific day at the plate.
