The Hillsdale College men's tennis team bounced back from a doubles point loss to beat Cedarville 6-1 at home and lock up a top four seed in the upcoming G-MAC Tournament on Friday.
Hillsdale swept all six singles flights to take the victory over the Yellow Jackets, led by a dominant performance at No. 1 singles from freshman
Ryan Papazov, who beat Cedarville's Logan DeHaven 6-1, 6-0 to secure the Chargers' first point of the match.
Ellis Klanduch took a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets' Nathan Hollis at No. 2 singles as well,
Henry Hammond won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles for the Chargers, and
Eddie Bergelin took a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles to clinch the match.
With the victory already completed,
Rintaro Goda won a 6-4, 7-5 match at No. 6 singles and
Alex Cordero Lopez pulled out a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 victory in three sets at No. 3 singles to complete the sweep.
Hillsdale lost the doubles point 2-1 in close matches despite a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles from Goda and Cordero Lopez, who continue to impress in doubles play for the Chargers.
The victory is a big one for the Chargers, who are 10-8 overall, 4-3 in G-MAC play and own the tiebreaker for the fourth seed in the G-MAC Tourney over both Walsh and Cedarville now. Hillsdale finishes out the regular season on Saturday against Ashland looking to clinch a winning record in conference play and guarantee themselves an above .500 record for the season.
