The Hillsdale College women's tennis team kicked off its 2026 spring campaign in dominant fashion on Friday afternoon, taking all nine matches over visiting Spring Arbor in a 7-0 victory.
Playing indoors in the friendly confines of the Biermann Athletic Center, Hillsdale got off to a fast start and never let up. The Chargers swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, as Hillsdale's No. 1 team of
Ane Dannhauser and
Megan Hackman pulled out a hard-fought 6-4 victory. The No. 2 doubles pairing of
Briana Rees and
Isabella Spinazze won 6-3 as well for the Chargers, and Hillsdale's No. 3 doubles team of
Esther Sura and
Dimitra Papastavrou didn't drop a game in a 6-0 victory.
In singles play, the Chargers clinched the match quickly with straight set wins at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles. First off the court was the freshman
Dimitra Papastavrou, who took a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Dayra Novella of Spring Arbor, followed by sophomore
Briana Rees at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over the Cougars' Victoria Herrington, and then senior
Megan Hackman with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Spring Arbor's Lilah Dean.
Ane Dannhauser toughed out a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles against Spring Arbor's Moorea McNalley, winning the end of set points that mattered in a 6-3, 7-5 decision.
Julia Zlateva won at No. 5 singles in a 6-4, 6-1 match for the Chargers, besting Spring Arbor's Andrea Vandermark, and freshman
Esther Sura completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Spring Arbor's Madelyn Dell at No. 6 singles.
Hillsdale is 1-0 on the season, and will be in action at home again tomorrow against Michigan Tech. The match against the Huskies is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
