Facing a field that included many of the Midwest Region's top teams, the Hillsdale College men's golf team battled their way to an eighth-place finish in a tight and crowded leaderboard on Tuesday at the Doc Spragg Invitational at the Findlay Country Club.
The Chargers shot a 287-298-291 to finish with 876 strokes, beating out conference foe Cedarville by a stroke but finishing a stroke behind host Findlay in an event decided by just a few shots.
Junior
Jackson Piacsek led Hillsdale, shooting two under-par rounds to tie for 13th with a 74-71-71=216. Piacsek was among the best players in the event on Par 5s, shooting six-under on those holes to propel him to a solid finish.
Senior and teammate
Oliver Marshall also played par 5s at six-under on the way to a 71-75-71=217 to finish tied for 16th, a stroke back of Piacsek. Sophomore
Parker Stalcup finished with a a 70-78-74=222 and had the lowest single round of any Charger in the event to finish tied for 37th as well.
Freshman
Anthony Stouder carded a 72-77-76=225 and
John Cassiday shot three straight 75s to finish at 225 as both tied for 53rd overall as well for the Chargers.
As a team, Hillsdale posted the fourth-best score on Par 4s among teams in the tournament, and tied for the fewest double or higher bogeys in the event with just six across 54 holes and five players.
The result keeps the Chargers in the conversation in the Midwest Region entering the final event of the fall. Hillsdale closes out play in 2026 at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania beginning on Oct. 19. The nine team event will include some of the top teams in the Midwest and Atlantic Regions, and mimics the Super Regional format with three 18 hole rounds played over three days.
