After a record-setting performance last week, Hillsdale College men's golfer
Oliver Marshall is earning some well-deserved recognition from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Marshall was named the G-MAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Monday afternoon, the second weekly conference honor of his career with the Chargers.
The senior had an epic two days at the UIndy Fall Invitational this past Monday and Tuesday, carding 69-67-70=206 to set a modern scoring record for the Chargers at 10 under par and finish fourth overall. It's the best 54-hole performance since the program restarted in 2014, edging out Joel Pietila's 9-under 207 at the 2017 NCAA Central Midwest Super Regional.
Fueling Marshall's performance was a stellar showing on Par 4's. The Florida native was nine-under par on Par 4 holes for the three rounds at Broadmoor Country Club, two strokes better than anyone else in the field. His 16 birdies also ranked fifth among all players in the tournament, and he played the 54 holes with just six bogeys on the way to one of the best finishes of his career at Hillsdale. With Marshall leading the way, Hillsdale took third as a team in the 17 team invite.
Marshall and Hillsdale will look to stay hot in the Susquehanna Collegiate, which is already underway with the team in action as this story is being written on Monday afternoon. It's part of a busy fall schedule for the Chargers, who will play five times in six weeks before pausing for winter and resuming in the spring.
