The Hillsdale College women's tennis team put on another strong display at home on Saturday, taking down visiting Purdue Northwest 5-2 to improve to 5-0 on the season.
One of the match keys was Hillsdale taking an early advantage by winning the hotly-contested doubles point. While all three matches were close, Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles team of junior
Ane Dannhauser and senior
Megan Hackman pulled ahead for a 6-3 victory, and the Chargers' No. 3 doubles team of sophomores
Emma Palus and
Julia Zlateva came up clutch with a 7-5 win to clinch the point for Hillsdale and an early 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles play, Dannhauser continued her dominant start, rolling past the Pride's  Elisoa Andriantefihasina 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to move to 10-0 in all matches in the spring so far. Hillsdale's No. 2 player, sophomore
Briana Rees, looked equally dominant in a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Purdue Northwest's Tamiya Lintz.
Freshman
Esther Sura gave Hillsdale the clinching point with a strong effort at No. 6 singles, dropping just two sets in a 6-0, 6-2 victory over PNW's Monserrat Gay Coello, while Zlateva finished off the victory for the Chargers with a 6-4, 6-2 with at No. 5 singles over the Pride's Lavinia Bortolaso.
The Chargers will hit the road to put their undefeated record to the test next week, playing Ferris State, a perennial Midwest region contender, on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. and then remaining on the west side of the state to battle another unbeaten squad, 6-0 Davenport, at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
