Chargers Jake Figman, Patrick MacLean named first G-MAC North Division Baseball Players of the Week

The Hillsdale College baseball team got off to a solid start to the season in the first two weeks, with a 3-3 mark against southern competition. That performance has a couple of Hillsdale's best players from those series earning G-MAC weekly recognition on Monday, Feb. 16.

The conference office announced this afternoon that sophomore outfielder Jake Figman was named the G-MAC North Division Player of the Week and senior right-hander Patrick MacLean was named the G-MAC North Division Pitcher of the Week for the start of the 2026 baseball season. With G-MAC teams starting at different times throughout the month of February, the first weekly award of 2026 encompassed contests from the first three weeks of the season. For both players, it's the first time they've won weekly conference honors in their careers.

Figman, who played a small role on the Chargers squad in 2025 as a freshman, was the breakout player of the first two weeks of Hillsdale's 2026 season, putting up big numbers in five contests and earning a spot in the starting lineup. The sophomore from Palm City, Florida hit .381 with three doubles, a home run and five RBIs across games against Montevallo and Lincoln Memorial, and had a knack for timely hitting. It was his RBI single late against Montevallo that helped force extra innings in Hillsdale's 15-inning marathon win in Alabama on Jan. 30, and Figman also had a solo home run in extras to help extend the game. Then, against Lincoln Memorial on Feb. 6, Figman had the tying two-run double in the top of the ninth in a game the Chargers went on to win 11-7.

MacLean, meanwhile, made two impressive high-leverage relief appearances in two of Hillsdale's three victories against tha Falcons and Railsplitters to start the season. In four innings in extra innings against Montevallo on Jan. 30, the senior held the Falcons to just one run with two strikeouts, keeping Hillsdale in the game until a seven-run explosion in the 15th allowed the Chargers to take a 14-9 victory. He was even better against Lincoln Memorial on Feb. 8, pitching the final three innings of a 3-3 ballgame against Lincoln Memorial and giving up no runs and just one hit while striking out three. MacLean picked up the win against the Railsplitters when Hillsdale exploded for four runs in the top of the ninth to pull ahead, and closed out the victory himself in the bottom of the frame. MacLean currently has a 1.29 ERA on the season, in the top five in the G-MAC currently.

Hillsdale is off this weekend, but will be back in action on Feb. 27, kicking off a four-game series with 15th-ranked Grand Valley State in Marion, Illinois.
