The Hillsdale College women's tennis team concluded its spring break trip to Texas on Tuesday with a huge test, taking on host Tarleton State, a NCAA DI program and WAC title contender with an 11-5 record entering the match. The Chargers fell, 7-0, against the strong Texans program, but gained valuable experience against an opponent that competes in the highest NCAA division.
The Chargers pushed Tarleton State at No. 1 doubles, as Hillsdale's team of sophomore
Briana Rees and freshman
Dimitra Papastavrou took Tarleton's top doubles team to a tiebreaker before falling 7-3.
In singles play, Hillsdale struggled to take points off of a strong Texans team. Sophomore
Julia Zlateva put up the best fight at No. 3 singles, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Tarleton State's Emma Persson.
Hillsdale is now 6-5 overall and returns to the state of Michigan on Sunday for a critical match to kick off Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Chargers travel to host Northwood for an 11 a.m. start, taking on a Timberwolves squad expected to contend for the G-MAC crown and looking to set themselves up as a contender as well.
