The Hillsdale College men's tennis team bested Cedarville with a strong showing on the road on Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory in G-MAC play.
Hillsdale set the tone early by taking the doubles point. Juniors
Ellis Klanduch and
Henry Hammond teamed up for a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, and Hillsdale clinched the point and a 1-0 lead with a victory by freshman
Jackson Clements and sophomore
Alex Cordero Lopez, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles.
The Chargers then put the match on ice with victories in 1-5 singles. Hammond didn't drop a game in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Pedro Noguiera of Cedarville at No. 4 singles, and sophomore
Ryan Papazov looked strong in a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Cedarville's Roman Issayev at No. 1 singles as well.
Sophomore
Sam Plys clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over the Yellow Jackets' Roberto Esquivel,  Klanduch won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles over Cedarville's Logan DeHaven and Cordero Lopez took a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory over Cedarville's Alexander Rongos as well.
Hillsdale is now 7-8 overall, 2-3 in G-MAC play and looking to clinch a top four seed in the upcoming G-MAC Tournament with just two weeks left in the regular season. The Chargers will be in action at home this coming Friday, facing off against Kentucky Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
