2026 NCAA DII Ping All-American Teams
Robert Thompson capped a historic season and career with a historic accomplishment on Friday morning.
Thompson earned honorable mention recognition on the 2026 NCAA DII Ping All-America team from the Golf Coaches Association of America, the organization announced in a press release. It's a special moment for both Thompson and the program, as the recent Hillsdale graduate becomes the Chargers' first-ever NCAA DII All-American, and the program's first All-American since John Auseon earned NAIA All-American honors in 1962.
The Charlotte, North Carolina native was one of just seven Midwest Region golfers and the only G-MAC golfer to earn an All-American honor for the 2025-26 campaign.Â
The recognition is the latest in a string of awards for Thompson, who received first team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference honors for the third straight season and made the Ping All-Midwest Region team earlier in May.
The junior earned his plaudits with a remarkable campaign in 2025-26, arguably the greatest in modern program history. Thompson won medalist honors at both the season-opening Malone-Glenmoor Invite and the Midwest Collegiate, becoming the first Hillsdale player to win multiple titles in the same season since the program restart in 2014. He also finished runner-up in a third event, the Doc Spragg Invitational, falling just short in a playoff of an unprecedented third title.
For the season, Thompson recorded eight top 10 finishes in 10 events played, showing remarkable consistency on the course as Hillsdale's top player. He finished the season strong, placing ninth at the G-MAC Championships on April 21 and tying for 10th at the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional, finishing just one place off the best-ever performance by a Hillsdale golfer in an NCAA Regional.
Thompson spent much of the season in rarefied air for a Chargers golfer, becoming the first Hillsdale individual to crack the top 10 nationally in the rankings during his torrid stretch in the fall. He finished the season ranked 60th and fifth in the region, rankings that stack up with the best players in program history.
The junior's play was a major reason Hillsdale earned a bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional for the second year in a row for the first time in program history, and the fourth time overall.Â
Thompson graduated this spring, finishing his degree at Hillsdale in three years, and will pursue graduate school opportunities this fall.
