Chargers perform well at Michigan Sectional

The Hillsdale College action shooting team held its own in one of the biggest competitions on the schedule over the weekend.

The Michigan USPSA Sectional brought in 228 shooters across three days of competition, in one of the toughest fields the Chargers will face. Despite the strong competition, Hillsdale had several top performances to hang its hat on coming out of the weekend.

Joe Beecher made a big splash in the Limited Division, with a third place finish, to continue what has been a strong season to this point for the sophomore from Illinois. Beecher was one of several strong performances in the Limited Division by the Chargers, as Hillsdale swept the top three spots in the Limited Ladies Division, with Clara Bozzay bringing home the title, teammate Jianna Coppola finishing second and Kathryn Madden placing third.

The Chargers also had two strong finishes in the Limited Optics Division, with Kayla Mullin placing second among women in the division and John Beecher finishing 10th in the overall category.

"This is the largest match we have been to this year, and the team performed very well," Mullin said. "It was raining hard for the first half of the match, which requires a much higher level of focus on accuracy and tends to slow down movement.

"The team was able to maintain our performance through the rain and then push our speed and accuracy once the weather improved for the second half of the match. We placed very well considering the amount and level of competition at this major match, and are feeling prepared and excited headed into the collegiate match this weekend!"

Next up for Hillsdale is a key date on the calendar, as the Chargers host the third annual Springfield Armory USPSA Collegiate Championships at the Ailes Action Shooting Range in Hillsdale. With collegiate competitors from around the country descending on Hillsdale, the Chargers will look to defend their home turf this weekend after winning a national title in 2024 and placing runner-up in 2025.
