Purslowe Leads Charger Golfers to 11th-Place Finish at Newberry

The Hillsdale College golf team got a glimpse of spring during the two-day Newberry College Invitational in South Carolina. The players took advantage of the warm and ideal conditions to put together two strong rounds of play.

The Chargers finished 11th through two days of play at the event, held at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island. Hillsdale's team score was 610, improving from eighth to sixth from round one to round two. In the first round, Hillsdale shot a 311, but improved greatly in the second round of the first day, carding a 299. On the third day of the event, Hillsdale had a team score of 323.

Liam Purslowe was terrific in the opening round, shooting a 71 which was third overall among all golfers. He shot a 74 in round two for a total score of 145, tops on the team.

Joe Torres had an 81 in the first round but recovered well in round two, with a 72, lowest round on the team in round two. Joel Pietila shaved 10 strokes off his round one score, shooting a 73 in round two after an 83 in round one.

Logan Kauffman shot 81-80--161, while Peter Beneteau had a two-round score of 182.

Purslowe shot the best round on the team Tuesday with a 79. Beneteau followed with an 80.

Hillsdale is off for the next few weeks, returning to action March 18-19 in Georgetown, Kentucky.
