The Hillsdale College men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule on Tuesday with a third place finish at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate, cementing its spot as one of the top teams in the Midwest Region entering the spring.
Playing a tough course at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort that gave everyone but eventual champion Grand Valley State trouble, Hillsdale hung tough, bouncing back from a 22-over opening round with solid second and third rounds to finish with a 903, eight strokes behind runner-up Findlay but six strokes better than fellow G-MAC contender and fourth-place Tiffin.
Robert Thompson capped a red-hot fall for the Chargers with another top-10 finish, his fifth in a row, tying for sixth with a four-over-par 220.  The third-ranked player in the nation carded a 73-74-73 to stay consistent and among the top of the leaderboard throughout the event, thanks in part to strong play on both Par 4s and Par 5s, where he ranked among the top 10 among all competing players in scoring. His 36 pars also were third among all players and just one behind teammate
Oliver Marshall, a testament to both players' metronomic consistency in the event.
Marshall also had a solid finish, tying for 13th with a 77-74-75=226. Along with a high number of pars, Marshall also was one of the best players in the tournament on Par 3s, shooting one-over for the event on those holes to help fuel his finish.
Hillsdale freshman
Parker Stalcup posted an 80-73-77=230 to place 26th, with his middle round helping the Chargers make a move from the middle of the pack into third. He just edged out teammate
Jackson Piacsek, who shot an 80-75-76=231 to finish 27th. Freshman
John Cassiday placed 34th with an 86-76-73=235, and both Piacsek and Cassiday were crucial as Hillsdale held off a charge by Tiffin in the final stretch on Tuesday, posting a combined five birdies in the final three holes in both of their rounds to give the Chargers the edge they needed.
Ryan O'Rourke played as an individual for Hillsdale at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate, shooting an 84-79-81=244 and finishing 45th.Â
The Chargers entered the Nemacolin Intercollegiate ranked third in the Midwest Region in the Scoreboard National Collegiate Golf Ranking, and another solid finish in Pennsylvania should keep Hillsdale in the top five at minimum entering the spring. The Chargers will work hard over the winter and pick back up in March, with the Dragon Spring Invitational on March 16, 2026 the next competitive event on the calendar for Hillsdale.
