Senior
Mackenzi Maxson had the start of her career to date for the Hillsdale College softball team this past Tuesday.
That game, along with a solid week overall, helped Maxson to be named the G-MAC Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon for the first time in her career.
Maxson, from Flower Mound, Texas, pitched an absolute gem against host Tampa on March 17, throwing a complete game two-hitter and allowing only four baserunners in a 1-0 victory over the fearsome Spartans, who had finished runner-up in all of NCAA DII in 2025 and entered the contest on an 11-game winning streak. Maxson stopped Tampa in its tracks, as the Spartans were shut out for only the second time this season and didn't advance a runner past first base against the Hillsdale senior, who took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning.
It was part of a strong week for Maxson, who went 2-1 in four appearances with a 2.07 ERA. The following afternoon, she pitched four and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief to earn a second victory over Florida Southern in a 5-2 contest. Maxson still had a strong game in her only loss, giving up just five hits and two earned runs in a narrow 3-2 decision at Embry-Riddle on Friday.
Maxson has been a dependable top arm for the Chargers as a senior, stepping into a full-time starting role and putting up the best numbers for Hillsdale in the circle, with a 3-3 record and a Chargers-best 3.50 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched.
The senior will almost certainly be in action again on Wednesday, as Hillsdale travels to in-state rival Northwood for a midweek G-MAC series, and again this coming weekend with home doubleheaders against Cedarville and Ursuline.
