The Hillsdale College men's golf team saved its best round for the final one at the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional this Wednesday through Friday at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
The Chargers carded a 292, 13 strokes better than their second round score and 23 strokes better than their opening round, to move up two spots in the standings and finish 18th in the super regional.
Robert Thompson led the Chargers and keyed the big jump up the leaderboard with an impressive final round, shooting a 4-under 68 to get back to one-over and finish tied for 10th as an individual in the final standings.
Thompson made eagle on the third hole of the day and added three more birdies to just one bogey to finish with a 74-75-68=217. The junior's finish tied with Ryan Zetwick for the second-best finish individually at a Super Regional in program history. His last round charge saw him climb 28 spots in the final standings on the day, as Thompson tied for the best final round score overall.
The junior's consistency paid off over the three rounds, as Thompson was second among all players in the tournament in total pars with 37, and in the top 10 in fewest bogeys as well.
Oliver Marshall and
Jackson Piacsek finished tied for 85th for the Chargers as well. Marshall shot an 80-78-75=233 to improve each round, while Piacsek had an excellent second round for the Chargers, carding a 79-74-80=233.
John Cassiday tied for 96th for the Chargers, shooting 82-82-74=238, while fellow freshman
Parker Stalcup played solid final rounds for Hillsdale as a substitute, carding 78 in round two and 75 in round three.
Ryan O'Rourke played round one for Hillsdale and shot an 84.
Hillsdale finishes the 2025-26 season having made the Super Regional in back-to-back years, a first in program history. The Chargers will look to return to the regional next year and take the next step with five of six players slated to return for Hillsdale next season.Â
